Yulin Sponsors Fashion Show and Lion Dance Competition to Distract from Dog Meat Festival!

A high-profile modern fashion show and a lion dance competition designed to promote the “classic and beautiful traditional Chinese culture to the world” will be happening at the same time as the notorious Yulin Dog Meat “Festival.” The fashion will occur the day before, on June 20, and the lion dance competition will occur on the same day as the festival, on June 21.

Both events are being widely publicized on the Yulin Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, TV, and Tourism's official social media accounts, along with promotions on local TV stations, newspapers, and radio stations. These events appear to be an attempt to divert attention away from the horrific and shameful Yulin Dog Meat “Festival” which has sparked global outrage and condemnation.

Our Yulin team tells us it's common for the government to try to use something new to move focus away from something controversial. The official language used for promoting the events is: "An expression of traditional culture in the new era, renewing the heart of an urban city.”
Another piece of good news is our team has not spotted any new temporary dog meat stands which tend to pop up around festival time - and a lot of the old ones went away. We believe the new and young Yullin Party Secretary (Wang Shen, 56 took over in June 2023), deserves the credit for these promising changes.

For years, the Yulin Dog Meat “Festival” has been a symbol of extreme animal cruelty, where thousands of dogs are brutally slaughtered for their meat. The festival has faced growing opposition both domestically and internationally, with numerous campaigns and protests calling for its end. The Duo Duo Project has been at the forefront of these efforts, working tirelessly to raise awareness and put pressure on authorities to stop this horrific practice.
The sponsorship of the fashion show and lion dance by the Yulin government is an encouraging sign that our efforts are making a difference. It indicates that the authorities are feeling the heat and are aware of the increasing unpopularity of the festival. This shift presents a critical opportunity for us to intensify our efforts and push for a complete end to the dog and cat meat trade.
How you can help to make this happen:
The Duo Duo Project has created a free eBook that provides detailed information about the Yulin Dog Meat "Festival" and the broader issue of the dog and cat meat trade. We urge you to download this eBook and share it with your friends, family, and social networks to spread the word and amplify our message.
Your financial support is crucial in helping us continue our work. Every donation, no matter how small, contributes to our mission to end the Yulin Dog Meat "Festival" and protect animals from such abject cruelty. Please consider making a donation today to support our ongoing efforts.
I hope that these events will be used by animal welfare lobbyists to highlight the urgency of shutting down that horrid Yulin so-called festival. I also hope that mean-spirited 'festival'-goers will not hijack those other events to piggy-back on them as 'appetite-wheters', dread the thought. Hence it is vital that all the animal welfare groups use these events productively to raise awareness of the plight of those poor companion-animals treated mercilessly as 'meat' at the Yulin 'festival' and as a springboard to campaign zealously against such evil.
