Each year in China, millions of dogs and cats are slaughtered for human consumption. There are no dog or cat meat farms in China. Most of these animals are stolen pets or strays—dogs and cats who are ripped from the safety of their homes and yards or taken off of the streets where they scavenge for survival.

This devastating practice is fueled by systemic issues, including a lack of resources to manage stray populations. By addressing stray animal overpopulation through sustainable spay/neuter initiatives, we can tackle a root cause of the dog and cat meat trade and prevent significant animal suffering now and for generations to come.

The Role of Pet and Stray Animal Theft in the Meat Trade

The dog and cat meat trade thrives in part because of an abundant supply of vulnerable animals. Pet theft is a common source. Traffickers frequently steal beloved family pets, targeting them because they are often friendly and less difficult to capture. Many strays, struggling to survive on the streets, also fall victim. With no identifiable owner or protective measures in place, these animals are easy prey for those seeking to profit from their pain.

By reducing the population of stray animals, we make it harder for traffickers to source victims, disrupting the cycle that perpetuates the dog and cat meat trade.

Duo Duo Project’s Spay/Neuter Initiative Plays a Pivotal Role

Duo Duo Project has already seen success in implementing spay/neuter initiatives in China, providing much-needed resources to communities that lack the infrastructure to manage stray populations.

These programs not only reduce the number of vulnerable animals, they also educate local communities about humane animal care.

Why Your Support Matters

Expanding our spay/neuter efforts is critical to achieving long-term change. However, these programs require consistent funding to sustain and grow.

By becoming a monthly donor, you can make a direct and lasting impact. Your contributions will help fund spay/neuter surgeries, community education, and advocacy efforts, all of which are vital to reducing the number of animals who fall victim to the cruel dog and cat meat trade.

Join us in creating a sustainable solution. By pledging just $30 a month, you can fund 6 spay/neuter procedures every year, helping to prevent animal cruelty before it starts. Your support will ensure that fewer animals end up on the streets and in the hands of traffickers. Together, we can create a brighter future for animals everywhere.
